Fergus Wiggins Patrol Mountain Australia
Meet Fergus Wiggins, the 13-year-old riding sensation from Australia riding for Patrol Mountain Australia!
  • What is your full name? Fergus Thomas Wiggins.
  • Where are you from? I was born in NZ, both my parents are British, and we now live in Melbourne, Australia.
  • How old are you? I have just turned 13 about a week ago.
  • Where do you ride? Mostly I ride in Victoria, and mostly I ride with my mates at a bike park about 30 mins from my house. The park is called Red Hill. But I also ride all over Melbourne and Victoria, more so for races, though. I have also ridden in Tasmania at Maydena, which is quite well known, and in Adelaide too.
  • What bike do you ride? I am lucky to have two Patrol bikes, I have a 691, which is the bike I ride the most, and I also have a 871 DH bike. They are both the same colour, Matt black and I love them!
  • What is your favourite trail/place to ride? The best track I have ridden is called the local at Maydena. It’s very flowy with lots of big jumps, which I like.
  • Do you prefer riding with your mates or racing? Riding with mates as it’s more relaxed.
  • If you could ride anywhere in the world, where would you go? Whistler! What is your perfect bike from the Patrol Mountain range, and why? 691 because it’s so versatile. It has a log of travel, is really stable and I find it easy to ride.
  • Who is your favourite rider or riding hero? Jackson Goldstone.
  • What has been your best MTB memory to date? Going to Maydena was awesome, but I also love going to Bright in Victoria.
  • What are your goals for 2023? The DH season is about to start here and my goal is for good consistent results. Being on the podium would be my goal.
  • What is your MTB dream job? To be a pro racer that travels the world to ride at different events.

A Comprehensive Guide to Converting Your Patrol Mountain Bike to Tubeless Bliss

Switching to tubeless tires offers benefits like reduced puncture risk due to internal sealant, lower rolling resistance for a smoother ride, and enhanced traction from running lower pressures without pinch flats. The process involves using tubeless-ready components and following steps to remove existing tires, apply rim tape, and install valves and tires, then adding sealant and inflating. Tubeless conversion results in a lighter, more agile, and responsive ride.

Nailing Sag: A Guide to Setting Up Your Full Suspension Patrol Mountain Bike

Setting proper sag is vital for a Patrol Mountain bike’s performance. A shock pump, tape measure, and assistant are needed for measuring the suspension compression under the rider’s weight. Optimal sag should be between 25-30% for the rear shock and 15-20% for the front fork. Adjusting the air pressure fine-tunes the ride, with regular checks advised for maintaining the ideal setting.
